Savanna Market

The class is having a blast at market.  Not to mention all the math skills they are using to budget, count, and provide change!  What a fabulous learning opportunity!

Plains Zebra Construction

Because we learned zebras have black skin , the children decided to use the black garbage bags to make the body.  They stuffed it with newspaper and then made in into the shape they wanted with packing tape.

We found out quickly that paper legs would not work so we made some legs out of cardboard.  We measured them because we knew they needed to be the same length.
We also made the zebra's neck and head out of trash bags and tissue paper.  We shaped the muzzle part of its mouth with packing tape.

The children working on the project wanted to paint stripes on the zebra.  They found out that you could not paint garbage bags so we covered it in black paper.

Finally, it was time for the finishing touches.  We tried yarn for the mane, but it was very hard to get it to stay together.  Then we tried felt fabric.

We added eyes and hooves to our zebra.  The children used Styrofoam to make the zebras hooves.
Here is all we learned about zebras!!

Oobleck- We used our senses to explore oobleck this week.  We also made predictions and recorded the results in some sink and float activities with the oobleck.  We even found out that you can walk on oobleck.  It has properties of a solid and a liquid.
